What is CBD?
CBD is the acronym for cannabidiol, a compound found in the hemp and cannabis plant that has significant medical benefits without the psychoactive elements of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
See our learning center for further information on “What Is CBD.”
What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Hemp has been cultivated for a multitude of industrial and agriculture purposes for centuries and has recently been adopted for health and wellness purposes due to the presence of CBD oils within the plant.
Marijuana comes from the cannabis plant rather than the hemp plant and it contains the chemical compound THC, which is psychoactive, meaning it is what causes the “high” sensation.
For more information, refer to our Learning Center where we discuss hemp vs. cannabis.
How does CBD work?
CBD works by providing natural cannabinoids similar to the ones that occur naturally in your biological makeup in order to assist your body’s internal regulating system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Click here to learn more about how CBD works.
What is the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD is found in both cannabis and hemp plants.
THC is found in cannabis plants and is what’s known for causing the “high”.
THC - Psychoactive
When THC is ingested, it binds to CB1 receptors and changes how brain cells function, which creates the psychoactive or “high” feeling.
CBD - Non-Psychoactive
CBD doesn’t bind to CB1 receptors and works as an antagonist against compounds that do. It suppresses the CB1-activating qualities of compounds like THC.
How is CBD produced?
CBD oils are extracted from the hemp plant using an extraction method such as ethanol or CO2.
This involves filtering the hemp plants through a series of chambers that control the temperature and pressure. When different temperatures and units of pressure are applied to the plants, the isolated CBD-rich oils are able to be extracted at a high purity.
Do I need a prescription to take CBD?
CBD oil products extracted from the hemp plant do not require a prescription, and they are legal to purchase from CBD shops online like ours from anywhere in the country!
Does CBD interact with other medications?
While taking CBD oils with other medications has not shown any malicious side effects thus far, CBD does interact by influencing the cytochrome P-450 enzyme system in the liver that is responsible for metabolizing certain drugs.
This means depending on the medication, CBD can either increase its working potential or hinder it from being metabolized as quickly and working as effectively. Grapefruit has a similar effect on this system. If you are prescribed any medication that is processed by the liver (which is most), you should consult with your doctor to see how CBD products may influence the effectiveness of your other medications.
How much CBD should I take?
Dosing your CBD depends on what ailment you're hoping to treat with your CBD oil product. As a general rule, you should always start low and go slow, increasing your dosage gradually until you find the right CBD dosage amount for your specific needs. Learn more about CBD oil dosage.
What is the best way to take CBD?
At Agrozen Life Sciences, we offer a variety of CBD oil products, and they're even more categories on the market today. Choosing which way to take your CBD supplements is up to personal preference. Whether you choose to ingest CBD sublingually via tinctures, vape CBD, blend CBD extract into a food or beverage, or consume CBD capsules or edibles — the possibilities are endless for implementing CBD into your daily routine. Learn more about taking CBD oil.
What makes one CBD product better than another?
Different CBD shops and manufacturers will use different species of plants grown in varying locations as well as perform different CBD extraction methods that all play a role in the quality of the CBD oil products produced.
Where does CBD come from?
CBD, or cannabidiol, originates from within the hemp and cannabis plants.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are organic compounds that are found in a variety of plants, contributing to their flavor, scent, and color. They're the building blocks for essential oils and are used frequently in foods, perfumes, and aromatherapy. The terpenes in hemp are known to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, and they contribute to the entourage effect that you can receive from CBD oil products. There are hundreds of types of terpenes that can be found in the different breeds of plants, but the most abundant types of terpenes in hemp and cannabis plants are myrcene and limonene.
What does full-spectrum mean?
Full-spectrum refers to the extraction process that features all of the exceptional flavors, aromas, terpenes, and beneficial components of the hemp plant outside of the CBD compound itself.
What is the entourage effect?
See our glossary of terms to know for information.
What is the benefit of vaping CBD?
Vaping CBD provides a convenient way to get your CBD intake in gradual doses throughout the entire day rather than simply taking a CBD supplement at one time in the day. When CBD is vaped, it enters into the bloodstream at a quicker rate than through taking an edible, capsule, or tincture where it must first be digested before entering the bloodstream.
Is CBD safe for pets?
Yes! Your furry friend has an endocannabinoid system just like us humans, meaning they can receive all of the benefits from CBD that you can. There are little to no side effects that have been observed from applying CBD to pets outside of slight drowsiness in some cases.
How much THC is in legal CBD?
In order to be legal nationwide, CBD oil products must contain less than 0.3 percent THC. Most hemp-extracted CBD has next to none.
Is CBD tested for in employment screenings?
CBD is not something that drug tests examine, but THC is. While there are minimal amounts of THC in CBD oil products, there is always the slight possibility it can lead to a false positive for THC on a drug test if consumed frequently prior to a screening.
Does CBD smell?
No, CBD itself does not have a pungent smell, and in most cases, CBD vape oils will include additional flavoring which will be the only scent that is apparent. Standalone, CBD has more of a subtle vanilla, mint, or even pine scent.
Does CBD have side effects?
After copious case studies, the only potential side effects noted have been fatigue, change in appetite, and diarrhea.
What does hemp look like?
Hemp is a tall, thin, and bright green plant with narrow, smooth leaves.
What does cannabis look like?
Cannabis is a short, bushy, dark green plant with wide, rough-edged leaves
What does CBD taste like?
Pure CBD oil with no additives has an earthy, nutty taste as it contains natural flavonoids from the hemp plant.
What is the Farm Bill?
The Farm Bill is an agricultural policy tool of the federal government that is renewed roughly every five years. The 2018 US Farm Bill may remove ambiguity around hemp manufacturing and CBD oil production allowing for it to be grown, cultivated, and processed for the making of CBD oil products nationwide.
Hemp was initially included in the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 passed by President FDR for its association with the cannabis plant as it was believed marijuana growers were using hemp as a cover for cannabis cultivation. Since then, 17 states have passed legislation permitting the legal growth of hemp plants, and hemp has been an imported good for decades.
What is the difference between measurements ml and mg?
Milliliters are units of volume, such as how much hemp oil is within a tincture bottle.
Milligrams are units of mass, and in terms of CBD, they refer to the amount of CBD isolate that is present within a hemp oil product.
What is the best CBD extraction method?
CO2 extraction provides the purest CBD oils by extracting all of the beneficial terpenes and other components of the hemp plant in order to create full-spectrum hemp extract with the greatest entourage effect.
How is hemp grown?
Hemp is an annual plant that is able to be grown in many soil conditions across the country. It thrives the most in warm weather and grows the best in well-drained soils rich in organic matter. It is grown in fields at least 50 acres or larger similar to grain and other industrial crops.
